Hi Everyone! I am a university student studying Education at UNSW. I am currently employed as a learning support officer at my old high school and have been with them for 4 years. I have experience caring for children of all ages including those with specialised needs. I also have experience supporting the elderly and families of all sizes as I often babysit my cousins and do chores for my elderly grandparents! Looking forward to meeting you all!
I have worked as a school learning support officer for three years and have attended numerous training days and have experience working with children and teenagers with autism/ADHD, non-verbal children, children with mild to severe mental health issues and trauma and some children with anger management concerns. I also have experience supporting children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
I have done casual babysitting and nannying for just under two years. My last family that I regularly supported before they moved had children aged 8 and 10 but I am comfortable with children aged 2 and above. I work 3 days a week with high school aged children (11-17), specifically those who require learning, behavioural and emotional support. The most rewarding part of childcare and a huge reason why I want to go into teaching is getting to know children and their families and becoming part of their daily routine. I also am very passionate about the importance of education and how learning can be catered to ensure that every child feels supported and valued!
Though I support many students across a range of subjects in my learning support role, I have never done specific tutoring for students. My education background is in history but I am proficient in primary level English, maths, HSIE, science and art! For secondary school students, I feel comfortable supporting them across all levels of English, standard Maths, drama, most of the Humanities subjects. I also love to help students develop study plans and exam skills! My goal is to ensure that learning is made fun and engaging but also allowing students to understand the purpose and impotence of the skills learned at school. I have high expectations, but I see my role as tutor as a way to help students achieve their specific personal bests!
