"Catherine was wonderful right from our pre-job communication to the end of the end of the assignment. I cannot recommend her highly enough. It was a potentially challenging assignment as an unforeseeable delay meant their flight from the USA arrived only that day and the children could have been tired and difficult. She established a calm relationship with the children right away and wasn’t fazed that they rejected the food we had left for them. She brought drawing things and has great entertainment skills in creating figures out of balloons and face-painting to draw on if she needs. I so appreciated her cheerful detailed text letting us know how it had all gone once the children had gone to bed. She was comfortable with setting them up on their iPads if they had needed them. We were delighted to have found her."

Childcare Experience

I have experience in schools as a preservice teacher and volunteer, party entertainment, private tutoring and baby sitting. I love getting to know about kids individual interests to keep them entertained. I’m all about a gentle approach that teaches children responsibility over their actions. Happy to follow your house rules and routines to keep continuity. My natural approach to unhelpful behaviour is to first address any emotional distress, which is the common cause for a lot of “miss behaving” before redirecting their actions. Eg response to a kid throwing their toys inside. “it looks like you want to throw things because you’re feeling frustrated. Can we do some deep breaths like we are blowing up a balloon? We cannot throw our trucks because we may break things. Would you like to throw a ball outside?”

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring since 2018 in various areas. Mainly study techniques for those with learning difficulties and creative subjects such as art. I have been able to support students in exam preparation for subjects I have not completed myself such as biology. My approach to learning is investigative and requires students to think about questions with my support and guidance, rather than me just responding with an answer when they don’t know.
