Hello! I am relatively new to Sydney and I have 8 years experience babysitting which I would love to continue over here. As a primary school teacher from Ireland, looking after young children has always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved creating interactive lessons and engaging activities that children truly enjoy whilst also learning. I really enjoy teaching but I’m keen for a break from the professional school setting and looking forward to trying something new. I would love the opportunity to meet new families, form bonds with children and if required, help them with their education through tutoring.
I worked as a special education teacher (SET) for the past year in Ireland. I worked in mainstream classes and also in small group or individual withdrawal. The children I taught were from ages 6 to 12 and had individual needs, including social and educational - such as ASD, ADHD, learning difficulty’s, dyslexia and dyscalculia.
I have been looking after children since the age of 16, approximately 8/9 years. I was a babysitter for my neighbour every second weekend. The children were between the ages of 6 and 10. I was working as a substitute primary school teacher for the past two years in Ireland. For the first year I worked in various schools, covering teachers on sick leave. I was in mainstream classes teaching ages 5 to 12 years old. For my second year of teaching, I covered a maternity leave position working as a SET (Special Education Teacher). I worked very closely with 2 boys, both aged 6, with ASD on their developmental, behavioural and social skills. I worked with a group of 5 girls, aged 11, with dyslexia, where we practiced comprehension strategies, touch typing programmes and incorporated word games to build their confidence in literacy. I completed a 3 month home-based summer programme in 2023 for children with special educational needs. I worked with a young girl who had ASD aged 4 in her home 2 hours a day. I also worked with two sisters daily in their home, ages 5 and 7 who both had ASD. I discussed with parents what activities they wanted completed, whether they wanted more of a focus on educational or social skills, and also any specific subjects they felt their child needed help with. I used resources that I already had from teaching and borrowed some more from the schools. The children spent most of the time learning through games, reading, nature walks and days out to the park ect.
I have 1 years tutoring experience in English and Maths for primary school students. I completed a TEFL course, and along with my experience teaching this allowed me to teach English to children with EAL (English as a Second Language). I have also completed a QQI Level 5 mathematics course. I taught English to an 11 year old girl from Poland for 45 mins twice a week. I also helped her with her homework as she was struggling with dyslexia and found reading and writing difficult.
