Hi parents/carers, I’ve grown up in Newcastle and have always loved being outdoors, whether it’s playing sports, going for walks, or finding new places to visit. As a kid my family tried to avoid screens, preferring to do things whether they be creative/craft or outdoor adventures. Children I’ve babysat for in the past have thoroughly enjoyed this approach and I find it helps build a connection with them so they feel safer, while also engaging them and encouraging them to think creatively. - 3yrs experience with kids aged 1-13yrs both girls and boys - Have a safe and reliable car, up to date insurance and rego with regular servicing (on green P’s; get my full license in Sept) - Studying a Bachelor of Primary Education at Newcastle University Would love to hear back from you :)
I have been working with children for 3 years now and have experience working with families who have 1-3 children, of ages 12 months - 13 years, both boys and girls. Working with children is one of the most rewarding experiences for me as you are in a privileged position to witness growth and progress throughout developmental stages of childhood. Building a connection with a family and the child/ren is essential to ensuring the parents are comfortable, and the kids feel safe and respected. When in an environment where they feel safe and respected the child/ren can enjoy the time spent with a carer and feel like they can be their true self. Nannying and babysitting bring me joy through the small things such as; the sense of accomplishment in a toddler who builds a bigger block tower then the day before, the excitement of a child scoring their first goal/point in sports, and the pride they feel when solving a maths problem or sounding out/reading a tricky word in homework. All of these things are what makes this job for me rewarding and why I enjoy and chose to do it.
I have only done a little bit of tutoring for family and friends, and while in high school I often would help others understand the content. I’m currently studying to be a primary teacher which will improve my skill set further. I find the most important thing when tutoring is that everyone learns differently and different methods of approaching content will work for different people, so it’s essential that when you start tutoring that you talk to the student and the parents to see what helps the child learn best (e.g. visual learner, needs to act it out to understand it, obtains knowledge through reading and summarising, prefers videos or audio clips and then discussions etc). I’m patient and very encouraging, with a preference to work face-to-face (in-person) to allow me to assist where needed clearly and effectively.
