How do you keep the little ones occupied? Even the best nanny or babysitter faces this challenge from time to time. Why not have fun with the kids in the kitchen with this easy pancake recipe? We guarantee it will results in smiles and satisfied tummies all around.

Recipe ingredients

All you need to make these kid-friendly pancakes is:

  • 1 cup of self-raising flour, sifted
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 egg, lightly whisked
  • 1 tsp of maple syrup

Method

First things first, make sure everyone washes their hands.

Then assemble your ingredients and utensils. You could even let the kids in on the action by asking them to help you measure ingredients or collect the bowls, spoons, and pan you'll need to cook.

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until combined - if you can, ask the kids to help you with this step. There's really nothing more fun than mixing.

Leave the mixture to rest for 10 minutes. This guarantees fluffy pancakes when they're cooked. Of course, the longer you leave them, the better, but we know it can be hard for kids to wait!

In the meantime, heat your frying pan on medium-low. Too hot, and the pancakes won't cook evenly or will burn. Grease your pan with oil or butter.

Use an ice-cream scoop or ladle to drop spoonfuls of mixture into the pan. When the surface of the pancakes starts to bubble, flip them over and cook for a further minute or two until perfectly cooked through. If the kids are old enough, they can have a go at this step.

Make clean-up a part of the cooking process. Rinsing your bowls, spoons and pans as soon as possible prevents the mixture from sticking and becoming difficult to remove. You can wash them more thoroughly after you finish your pancakes.

It's time to enjoy them!
