Hi all! I am an English backpacker here in Sydney currently on a working holiday visa, but I’m in the process of applying for a partner visa with my Australian boyfriend, so plan to be here for the foreseeable future! I recently graduated from the University of Bath in Psychology, and am looking for some work to fill my evenings and spare time! I love music, sports, creative arts and generally being a bit silly so would defo be willing to get stuck into playing with your children! I am an only child myself, so I know how important having a good babysitter was to me when I was younger, and want to be able to give that back to your family! I also love animals (especially cats) so would be up for feeding/walking and looking after them, and would be happy to help out around the house with any cooking, tidying and cleaning if needed! I live a healthy active outdoorsy lifestyle (how can you not when the weather is this good here!?) and I don’t smoke! I look forward to hearing from you! :)
I don’t have specific special needs training, however I have a degree in Psychology which included modules on child psychology and developmental disorders, therefore I have quite a bit of theoretical knowledge. I have also worked with children with disorders such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Learning Disabilities, so have some practical experience as to how to adapt tasks and communication to best suit them. I am also a quick learner and would be happy to be taught any specific methods necessary to allow your children to have the best experience whilst in my care!
I have worked as a playworker with primary school children (aged 4-11) for 6 years and loved every minute of it - only quitting to move out here! In that role I frequently worked one-to-one with children with developmental issues such as ADHD and Autism and found this particularly rewarding. I have also worked as a babysitter for neighbours and family friends, looking after children of all ages in the evenings and doing school pick up/drop offs. I have an enhanced DBS check (which is the British equivalent of a working with children check). I am also a very active person and love playing sports so would be happy to entertain your children with activities that suit them! In addition I am also quite creative and enjoy arts and crafts so wouldn’t mind getting stuck in and getting my hands dirty!
I have some home tutoring experience from when I was in high school, I tutored primary school age children in English and Science mainly but would be happy to help with most subjects. I have a personal interest in the creative arts subjects, as well as the humanities such as Psychology and completed these to a high level myself, so would be happy to help with these from primary school age to high school age children. I also have some experience as a sports coach for children, so am very patient and used to explaining things as many times as is required.
